April 1 is Census Day! Be sure to fill out the 2020 Census today by going to 2020Census.gov. The 2020 Census takes just 10 minutes to complete. You can also respond by phone or by paper mail with details available at 2020Census.gov.
We celebrate Census Day on April 1 because that is the reference date when answering Census questions. Be sure to count everyone who usually lives and sleeps in your home as of today. Everyone in your home counts, whether they are relatives, non-relatives, friends, or roommates. Also don’t forget to count all children, particularly those under the age of 5 and those babies who have joined our world on or before April 1. We also need to remind our family, friends, and neighbors of the importance of filling out the 2020 Census.
The data collected helps determine how more than $675 billion in Federal funds each year will get distributed to states and communities. These funds support critical services including transportation, education, health care, and food assistance. The resulting population totals also determine the allocation of the 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
