Earlier this week, the school board approved the 2017-2018 pending the passage of a new law that would allow districts across South Carolina to start on Thursday, August 17. Gov. McMaster signed into law a one-year waiver allowing this change and it was the recommendation of the district calendar committee to take advantage of this change if the opportunity became available. Feedback from a community survey and a district-wide student advisory council supported the earlier start as well.
With that said, students will return on Thursday, August 17. The calendar allows high school students to complete exams before winter break. While other area districts are still in the process of approving their calendars, all drafts being considered by Clover, Fort Mill, and York have the same spring break as Rock Hill, April 2-6, 2018. The last day of school for students will be Thursday, May 31.
