Acting Superintendent Dr. Bill Cook announced today the hiring of Mr. Juan Roldan as the principal of Sullivan Middle School effective July 1.
Roldan replaces Shane Goodwin, who resigned this month after 22 years in Rock Hill Schools, the last four as principal at Sullivan. Goodwin is relocating with family to Virginia.
Roldan arrives at Sullivan Middle School with 15 years of experience in Union County (NC) and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools where he has served as a middle and high school science teacher and school administrator.
After graduating from UNC Charlotte in 1997, Roldan spent two years at the world-renowned M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas where he was a research assistant and laboratory manager. After returning to the Carolinas, he began his teaching career at Weddington High School in 2003.
In 2007, Roldan moved to Marvin Ridge High School to become an assistant principal, and, in 2013, he became a science teacher at Ardrey Kell High School. Since January 2017, he has served as the Dean of Students at South Charlotte Middle School. In this role, he coordinated talent recruitment, staff observation and evaluation, school testing program, and led the implementation of the school improvement plan.
He has a master’s degree from UNC Charlotte and a principal licensure from Wingate University, and he is currently pursuing his doctorate at Wingate.
