In a move that will consolidate the district’s language immersion programs onto a single campus, the new school will unify the district’s language instruction and create a pipeline that will allow students to continue in-depth language study at Sullivan Middle School in grades 6-8. Presently, Spanish immersion is offered at Richmond Drive Elementary and Ebinport Elementary. French immersion is offered at Rosewood Elementary. Sullivan houses the district’s middle school International Baccalaureate making this an ideal location for the new language school. A committee of parents, teachers, and administrators have worked with Charlotte-based Moseley Architects to purposefully design a facility that will reflect the teaching and learning occuring inside its walls. Students from Ebinport, Richmond Drive and Rosewood Elementary schools will speak in French and Spanish at the groundbreaking ceremony on August 31.
Groundbreaking event: Thursday, August 31 at 9:30 a.m.
The general public is invited to join in the excitement as we celebrate “Building on the Rock”. The school, which is set to open in August 2018, is made possible by the community support of the district’s $110 million bond referendum in May 2015.
If attending the event, please park on the Caswell Street / Cherry Park side of Sullivan Middle School’s campus, 1162 Eden Terrace. The event will take place rain or shine.
